Taking a two day cruise down the Mekong River is a very rewarding way to get yourself to Luang Prabang. This cruise starts at The Thai/Lao border crossing at Chiang Kong. You will spend two days on the boat stopping off at points of interest along route and stoping for an overnight in small riverside town of Pakbeng.

TOUR DESCRIPTION

Day 1 Chiang Kong (Huay Xai) to Pakbeng

The trip commences at the Chiang Kong border immigration post in Thailand. At 8:00am you will be met by your English speaking cruise team. From this point you depart Thailand on the Thai Laos friendship bridge and enter Laos at Huay Xai where you will be processed by the Laos immigration authorities. Together with the other cruise members and your English speaking cruise guide you will join the short drive to the boat pier where your Mekong cruise boat will be waiting. The boat will depart Huay Xai for the start of your comfortable two day cruise down the Mekong to Luang Prabang. On the first morning the boat will first make a brief stop at the small settlement of Pak Tha to have the cruise papers approved by the local authorities. A second stop of the morning will be made at a riverside hill tribe village, where, accompanied by the cruise guide you will get a close up insightful view of an ethnic hill tribe group (Kamu) living on the banks of the Mekong. Lunch will be served onboard while you enjoy the resplendent scenes of Laotian Riverside life. Take the afternoon to relax on board and the boat will dock at the small riverside town of Pakbeng before sunset.

On this cruise you are free to make your own accommodation arrangements in Pakbeng or you can opt for pre-booked accommodation with the package to suit your comfort level

Day 2 - Pakbeng to Luang Prabang

On the second day you will embark the boat at 08:00. Take the morning to enjoy the cruising time to its fullest and feel free to take the opportunity to ask the on-board guide any questions you have on Laos and Luang Prabang. Lunch will be served before making two riverside stops and visits. The first stop after lunch you will visit Pak Ou caves (the caves of a thousand Buddha images). Later in the afternoon you will also stop at Lao Loa village (whiskey village). This little village is famous for its whiskey production. The final short leg of the trip will be made to Luang Pragabng where you will be transferred on to your hotels.

Important take note:

This trip is different from The TL3001 transport package. This is a "cruise" and not a "transport" package. This cruise is designed for persons who require a greater level of comfort for their trip to Luang Prabang and also includes a guide and sight seeing stops on route. 

The trip starts at Chiang Kong immigration post in Thailand. The meeting time is 08:00 with the cruise representative. You need to be at the border post and present yourself to the cruise representative at 08:30am latest. You will cross the border together assisted if required by the cruise representative.
